Get Primal! With your diet. And with your life.

Every great fitness plan includes not only good programming, but also a healthy diet and lifestyle to go along with it. Many different trainers, and training programs will reccommend various different dietary suggestions, and many of them are a great fit for their programs. Here at the Girevik Bear we continue our all natural, bare bones philosophy right on through to how we eat. We create workouts that are best performed outside in the fresh air where humans are meant to be, and they are performed with minimalistic equipment as well. We feel that in order to become the greatest human being you can become, you must eat the way you evolved to eat, and not the way that a highly processed modern culture does. I am no dietician or nurtitionist, but I do enjoy reading the studies, and getting the facts when it comes to foods, nutrients, and their effects on the human body. I love the concept that Mark Sisson's Primal Diet embodies. It states that we should eat the way we evolved to eat, like the hunter-gatherers that humans once were. Not consuming the highly processed, sugar laden foods that have become the norm in modern, highly civilized countries.

We should consume whole, nutrient dense, natural and unprocessed foods that you could have conceivably found, or hunted down yourself. This carries over into your lifestyle as well. Modern humans sit and sit and sit. At work at a desk, at home in front of a tv, and in the car as we travel between these places. We didn't evolve sitting down! Nor did we get to where we are today by sitting on our butts! Now obviously we can't change the fact that we must sit in a car when we drive it, and a desk job may be all we've got to pay the bills. But you can very easily cure the couch problem at home. Hence the existence of fitness programs in the first place! But a person shouldn't be content to just "workout" here and there and expect to be completely healthy and fulfilled by that alone. Living life to the fullest requires much more! Getting outside, walking and playing with your kids or with your dog, enjoying the great pleasure and relaxation that nature and the outdoors provides. Being healthy ivolves everything in your life, your body, your mind and your soul.

I think that the diet that best fits Bear Fitness, and any fitness program (heck, any lifestyle!) is the Primal Diet. This diet is outlined and explained in Mark Sisson's book "The Primal Blueprint". Mark also covers lifestyle, activity, and even touches on fitness in this "primal living bible" of sorts. His explanations take the guesswork out of figuring out just why you are changing what you eat, and why what you have been instructed to eat is healthy for your body and mind. His inclusion of detailed, but easy to follow science is great for a beginner to nutrition and fitness and an experienced athlete or trainer alike. I recommend purchasing his book and following his dietary advice, this combined with the Bear Fitness training program will leave you amazed by how you look and feel! Mark's book can be purchased directly from his website Mark's Daily Apple or from Amazon.com.

Starting a new diet can be a bit daunting at first glance. Many people are concerned about losing out on the tastes of the foods they love. Well in the case of pizzas, sweets, and all your sugary cereals, tough luck. That stuff doesn't belong in a human's diet any more than cats belong on a cows menu. There are plenty of options with the Primal diet, and with a little creativity you can enjoy food more than ever before! The foods that make up the average American's diet are really quite disappointing from a dietary perspective, even some deemed "healthy" by big corporation's marketing departments. They are filled with a literal myriad of ingredients that are completely unnatural that wreak havoc on your bodies internal systems. The name of the game with the Primal diet is allowing our genes to fully represent themselves without being inhibited or masked by all those toxins and malnutrients. Homo Sapiens evolved over millions of years, our diet remained the same for a very, very long time. Only in the past several hundred years has agriculture become developed and modern civilization was born.  Our genes have not evolved to compensate for this abrupt (speaking on evolutionary terms) change in diet. This can be responsible for alot of the diseases that are becoming a real problem in modern civilized countries. Heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer's, osteoporosis, just to name a few, are becoming ever greater threats to our health as we age. Much research has been done to support that alot of these diseases can be prevented by breaking out of today's "norm" and changing the way we eat and live.

So we have established that Bear Fitness is the way to go to reach even your most distant, and extreme athletic goals. Now it's time to adjust the rest of your life to match up with your new fitness prowess. You can't outrun a bad diet! And you won't stick with either if you are not getting everything you can out of life. So get out there, live life to the fullest and really experience every day. Clean up your diet, and eat for your health as well as your athletic performance. Get plenty of sleep. And keep working your body hard with the Girevik Bear Fitness method. You can become something great! And you will be proud of yourself, and feel awesome every step of the way!

Here's to our health and longevity fellow Bears!
